Lights

Lights are a type of placeable item and an editable object built into most Condo maps. There are two main types of light items: point lights and spot lights.

Functions

Lights, as the name implies, cast light on nearby objects. Point lights cast light on anything in a radius around them, and spot lights cast light in a cone in the direction they are facing.

Properties (All Lights)

Editable properties shared across all lights, including items and lights built into Condos.

Almost all lights have a color wheel to adjust what color the light emits.

Toggles the light on/off.

Brightness can be adjusted from 0 (no light) to 10. Can be adjusted up to the 2 decimal point for precise adjustment.

Can be adjusted from 0 - 5000, although some light items' radii stop increasing at a number before 5000. On point lights, this adjusts how far the item emits light in all directions. On spot lights, this adjusts how far the light cone extends.

Most lights have a selection of functions which affect how the light appears.

• Normal: Static light effect.
• Flicker (1, 2, 3) The light flickers. 1 flickers the fastest, and 3 the slowest.
• Pulse (Slow, Fast): The light pulses on and off.
• Rainbow: Most similar to Normal, but passively changes color.
• Candle: Creates a wavy, bubbly light effect.
• Caustics: Creates a blurry caustics effect, like light shining onto water.
• Dots, Spots: Shines a grid of dots instead of a solid radius/cone of lights. Dots shines many smaller dots, while Spots shines scattered, larger dots.

Makes the light cast shadows on its surroundings, creating a more realistic lighting effect and reducing light bleed through walls. This can be very resource intensive, so use sparingly. This setting requires Placeable Light Shadows enabled in graphics settings to use. The setting also typically only works on items with a small maximum radius.

Properties (Specific Light Items)

Editable properties reserved for specific lights.

Available on all spot lights. Changes the width and length of the light cone.

Available on some spot lights. Adjusts the vertical orientation of the light. Some spot lights can also be adjusted horizontally.

Available on lights with stands. Adjusts the height of the stand.

Available on lights hanging on strings. Adjusts the length of the string.

Available on some novelty lights. Sets the speed which a part of the light rotates.

Performance Impacts and Optimizations

Lights can have performance impacts if used improperly, although there are ways for the Condo editor(s) to minimize them.

• Light radii intersecting with each other can be very resource intensive. It's recommended to keep light radii small when possible to avoid this.
• Some light functions (Candle, Caustics, Dots, and Spots) are more resource intensive than others. Performance impact isn't significant unless the effects are regularly used for several lights.
• The Cast Shadows setting is VERY resource intensive. Only use this when completely necessary.
