The classic, default game type. 4 players are required to start.
Each round begins with a brief suspense period lasting roughly 20-30 seconds. During this time, all players are Survivors and can freely walk around the map. At the end of this period, one player is chosen to become the first Infected and the round actually starts.
The first Infected player must spread the infection to the Survivors, while the Survivors have to fend off the infection with their weapons. If any Survivors remain once the round ends, the Survivors win. If all Survivors become Infected before the round ends, the Infected win.
The Survivors
Survivors play from a first-person perspective. Every round, all survivors share a randomly selected loadout of weapons to defend themselves from the Infected. Besides the standard guns, survivors can also use two other tools:
- Survivors are given one powerful weapon each round that can instantly kill Infected players, unless they are the first Infected and/or are enraged:
- TNT: A bomb with a small detonation radius that is placed on the ground. If an Infected player steps on it, it will detonate and explode.
- Crossbow: A crossbow with 6 shots. Each shot can instantly kill an Infected player.
- Each Survivor is also given a syringe of adrenaline, which can be activated by pressing C. Using adrenaline grants a speed boost with a duration of 15 seconds, allowing the player to outrun Infected.
The Infected
The Infected play from a third-person perspective. They have green skin, and are engulfed in a green flame. They have nothing to defend themselves from the Survivors' weapons, and only have melee attacks (running into Survivors and slashing them).
Infected players have 100 health. The first Infected selected at the start of a round, however, has 150 health, but only until they Infect another player. If the first Infected player is killed once without hitting a Survivor, they will become enraged, gaining a temporary boost in speed.
Survivors will become infected if hit by an Infected player. Survivors also become Infected if they die to environmental hazards (currently exclusive to custom maps).
Radar
Every player has a radar on the top left corner of the screen. It shows all players in a radius around the player. White dots represent allies and red dots represent enemies.
In addition to the radar, a beeping sound (meant to imitate a geiger counter) will play for Survivors when an Infected player is nearby, increasing in frequency and volume the closer the Infected is to the player.
