Libretro Emulation
Tower Unite supports Libretro emulation via a collection of placeable and equippable items. Emulation support is currently experimental. An official tutorial can be found on the PixelTail Games forums.
Libretro Items
There are four main types of Libretro item:
- Game Cabinet - Has a screen included, can run emulated games.
- Lightgun Cabinet - Can play lightgun games on supported emulators.
- Game Console - No screen, must be connected to a media player to play.
- Handheld - Equippable game emulator.
And two unique Libretro items:
- Retro Gaming Cartridge - Can store a game and will load them onto a cabinet or console when thrown at it.
- Wireless Controller - Can start and control emulators from a distance.
All cartridges and game cabinets have Canvas support. Cartridges will also automatically load game artwork picked from IGDB by default.

How to Play
For cabinets and consoles, open the item's properties and click Browse Game; for handhelds, press R to enter the Browse Game menu. Then, open the ROM folder and add game files to their corresponding console emulator's folder, in an accepted file type. After doing this, refresh, and the game(s) should appear in the menu.
Cartridges have the same Browse Game setting as cabinets and consoles. When a game is selected, a cover image will be automatically applied from IGBD, and throwing it at an emulator will load the game onto the emulator.
Visitors can play ROMs if they have a ROM that matches the name of a ROM applied to a console or cartridge. Currently, there is no networking or netplay for emulators.
Settings Menu
Tower Unite has a built-in emulator settings menu which can be accessed by holding Shift (keyboard) or the Select button (gamepad).

Trivia
- The PartyCon 3D was renamed from PartyCon 64 in Hot Fix 0.16.6.0. Despite this, it is still named PartyCon 64 on the model itself.
